Metropia’s community, the urban village of Old Ottawa East boasts deep historical roots and character that’s still felt here today. The Rideau Canal opened in 1832, the origins of St. Paul University date to 1848. Though the village was amalgamated by the City of Ottawa in 1907 its Old Town Hall remains standing today as a lovingly restored and active community centre.
The urban village identity of Old Ottawa East is the focus of the community’s forward planning too – and Metropia is part of this new century mix. The neighbourhood’s prime location, its genuine 19th century Main Street, its immediate access to Ottawa’s downtown, plus parks and canal and river boundaries assure a wave of new investment in a greener and less car dependent 21st century.
